Video Editing Practice Blog Reflection

Hey Blog, welcome back! Today I'll be telling you all about how I edited my first clip!

Just last week I started my learning process by watching a few videos about the editing software Premier Pro. Originally, I didn't know how to feel because I was being told a lot of information I had no idea even existed! It was definitely an adjustment but with practice I was able to get pretty good at it. Before starting the editing process, the videos we watched consisted of how to organize media, making edits on timeline, adjusting audio, and multiple other features. By watching each of these videos I was able to feel comfortable putting this knowledge into work.

While creating the clip it was a lot harder than I could've imagined. Watching other people do it was a lot harder than actually doing it, so I played around with it a little. Once I tested out each feature, I watched through all the provided clips to decide what order I wanted everything to be in. With each clip I chose, I had to analyze and adjust the length in order to make sure the best quality of filming was included. By using the marker tool, the process of choosing the best clips came a lot easier. After choosing each clip, I adjusted the audio for it to flow a lot better. Since this was all new to me, I did have to ask for some assistance, but overall it was a success!

Throughout this process, I came across a challenge of including audio transitions. Over time I realized the audio seemed choppy. After realizing this I then decided to include those audio transitions which were difficult to add since they had to be used at the end of a clip and at the beginning of the next. This challenge did take a long time to succeed but by putting time and effort into it I was able to fix it. Other than that,  I did have some good successes, one being my b roll transitions. Although the audio transitions were difficult, the b roll transitions were good.

In the process of making this clip I learned a lot of valuable takeaways that will be necessary for future assignments. A primary example of this would be layering video clips with audios. This process made my editing a lot cleaner and better. To improve next time I edit, I will try to add more coloring to have a better execution. I will also attempt different features like constant power to my clips.

I think this assignment will help a lot with the portfolio project because it is almost like an introduction to it. This practice helped me understand the basic foundation to what I am supposed top be doing, and how to do it. Overall, this assignment will be very helpful in the long run.
